Drop all charges against Nabeel Rajab and unconditionally release him from jail

Nabeel was sentenced to three months imprisonment after he was accused of libel and using social networking site twitter to "insult the citizens of Muharraq." These accusations stem from tweets he posted on 2 June 2012 in which he called on the Prime Minister to resign citing corrupt practices.

While in detention Nabeel has lodged an appeal against his three month-sentence which is expected to heard on 5 August 2012.

18 Years for Eskinder Nega

Update: Eskinder Nega has been sentenced to 18 years after being convicted of "conspiring with rebels". Nega was arrested last year and accused of trying to incite violence by posting articles online that were considered to be critical of the government. Nega and 22 others were charged under Ethiopia's 2009 anti-terrorism law because of their links to US-based group Ginbot 7. Nega received the PEN/Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award in May 2012, and Amnesty International has designated him a prisoner of conscience.

Nabeel Rajab Jailed for Twitter Statements

The BBC News and other media outlets report that Mr. Nabel Rajab on of Bahrain's leading democracy and human rights activits, has been sentenced to three months in jail for statements and comments he put on Twitter. On Saturday May 5th,Mr.Rajab was arrested by Bahraini authorites at Manama Airport after returning from Beirut, Lebanon. On May 28th, he was released on nearly US $1,600 bail. Urgent Call for Action on Moves to muzzle NGOs in Russia

Russia's Parliament -the Duma- will consider amendments to laws governing NGOs on 13 July.

Civil society across the globe is shocked by the proposed amendments which will force organisations that receive international funding to label themselves as "foreign agents" and require them to be subject to excessive government oversight and onerous reporting requirements in violation of Russia's constitutional and international law obligations.

On Friday 8 April 2011, human rights defender Mr Ahmad Mansour was arrested during a police raid on his home. Mr Ahmad Mansour is a blogger who has been active in demanding political reform in the UAE. He is also an employee of Thuraya Telecom. Before his arrest, he had received death threats as part of a smear campaign against him, as well as a threat to be transferred from his job in the UAE.

Amnesty International USA just reported that  four WOZA (Women of Zimbabwe Arise!) activists were arrested today (28-02-2011) at the home of a WOZA member. The charges or reason for the arrests is unknown. This seems to a continuation of harassment and intimidation against human rights defenders in Zimbabwe. Please add your voice to put an end to this continued political persecution by the Mugabe government.

We, the residents of Tsamiyar Boka Bus Stop, in Hotoro, Kano - Nigeria are using this opportunity to appeal to the whole world to intervene and save us from a disaster that is waiting to happen.

At Tsamiyar Boka Bus Stop, Hotoro-Kano, Nigeria, there are some shops owned by one  Alhaji Abdullahi Sammani. Of all the shops in the location, the ones belonging to the said Alhaji Abdullahi are very weak because they were constructed with substandard materials. Another day in prison for the health workers is another day that justice is denied.

President Benigno Aquino III should act now for the release of the Morong 43.

Nine months ago in February, the 43 health workers including 26 women – two of whom have already given birth while in prison – were illegally arrested, searched, detained, and tortured. Their rights are still being violated and their families tormented.
